Additional Property Attributes

The City of Green Bay Redevelopment Authority is soliciting s of interest for a renovation project for the Schauer & Schumacher Buildings. Ideally, the redevelopment will showcase the buildings existing architectural integrity. A mixed-use housing and retail project is preferred to meet the growing demands for urban housing.

Former Use: The Property was developed for residential use before 1883. By 1900, the residential structures were removed and the Property was being used as a millinery. By 1936, the building layout present today is observed and consists of a furniture store (south), undertaker (north), garage, and store. City directories have the Schauer & Schumacher funeral chapel present at the 109 North Adams address from at least 1927 through 1953. By 1955, the building on this portion of the Property was listed as vacant and being used as a warehouse. The 227-231 East Walnut Street building was occupied by Schauer & Schumacher furniture. The furniture store moved from the building in 2000 and the building has been vacant since that time.
