Additional Property Attributes

This property was formerly a facility used to repair railroad cars.

Former Use: The Property currently consists of a rail car maintenance, repair and paint facility (Freight Car Services) on the west portion and corn fields on the east portion on approximately 48 acres. The rail car service facility is developed with 6 buildings and several rail road service tracks. According to historical information gathered by Converse, the Property appears to have been agricultural land and a rural residence as early as 1949. By 1977, the residence was no longer present. By 1984, the west portion of the Property appeared to be developed with five buildings and several railroad service tracks in a similar configuration as observed during the Property reconnaissance and the east portion appeared to be agricultural fields. By 2007, the Property was developed with an additional industrial building on the southwest portion. The Property appeared to remain in the same configuration as observed during the July 2014 Property reconnaissance. The current and historic industrial use of the Property, for repairing, cleaning, blasting and painting railcars along with associated chemical use and waste generation is a REC based on known releases below regulatory current guidelines, known limited arsenic impact, on-site septic tank and waste handling and storage practices. The sludge in the trenches of the paint building and former wash building is a REC based on known releases to the trenches. The residual coal slag on the near the blast building hopper, scattered coal slag on some of the railroad tracks, and the two mounds and drums of coal slag on the southern portion of the Property is a REC related to chemical and waste storage practices.
