Property Highlights

This project involved the assembly of over 80 parcels of blighted former industrial, commercial, and residential land. The project is a component of a major neighborhood revitalization effort sponsored by Henry Ford Health System, which will be anchored by a new satellite campus of Henry Ford Hospital. The program calls for $500 million of new medical and educational facilities that promote new residential and commercial development in the surrounding area, which covers 300 acres and includes the subject property.

Former Use: Prior to redevelopment, the subject property consisted of 80 parcels with associated streets and alleys. The historical use of these parcels included various industrial, commercial, and residential activities beginning in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Occupants and ownership of these parcels varied. The area was a robust neighborhood where residents worked (commercial and industrial) and lived (residential), but beginning in the late 1960s economic conditions began to impact the area and blight set in, and many buildings were vacated and fell into disrepair between the 1970s and 1990s.
