Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Matanuska Maid Block is comprised of four parcels covering 8.74 acres. There are three other parcels, adjacent to the four included in this assessment, that are currently owned by private parties not interested in assessing possible contamination at this time. The block is bordered by South Valley Way (west), East Dogwood Avenue (north), Denali Street (east), and East Dahlia Avenue (south). The block was established in the mid-1930s and served as an industrial and commercial heart of the Matanuska Colony when it was established by homesteaders under the Federal Emergency Relief Administrative New Deal. The Matanuska Valley Farmers Cooperative Association, which was formed in 1936 to manage and market produce and dairy, operated on the Matanuska Maid Block. Of the four parcels included in the block, one is owned by the State of Alaska, and three are privately owned.
