Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Armory was constructed by the federal government, from 1941 to 1942 under the Works Progress Administration, as a National Guard armory. The building was equipped with ammunition lockers and vaults for guns and other military equipment. The main floor was the drill floor for training troops. Beneath the Armory are indoor garages that were used to park military vehicles. The basement also included a rifle range. In 1950, it was given to the Sheboygan as a training site and municipal auditorium. The Armory was the venue for basketball games, local festivals, and touring companies. Except for the Great Lakes Aerospace Science & Education Center's Spaceport Sheboygan (GLASEC) program, the facility was closed to the public in 2007. GLASEC moved out of the facility in early 2014 and the City is determining its redevelopment potential.
