Additional Property Attributes

Richard N. Hansen has agreed to donate former Quinnesec mine property to the Charter Township of Breitung on condition that a recreational/tourist attraction is developed. This was one of the first iron ore mines in Dickinson County. Shaft #4 is locally known as the Devil's Icebose due to the propensity of snow and ice to remain in the shaft mouth year round.

Former Use: This was an iron ore mine, starting in 1878 and closing in 1935. The property has not been developed since. Mr. Hansen acquired the property in April 1992 from BHL&C Enterprise. It is unknown when BHL&C Enterprise obtained the property. Mr. Hansen has agreed to donate mine property to the Charter Township of Breitung on condition it is developed as a recreational/tourist attraction.
