Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The building had been used as a High School and Middle School for Town residents. The building has been vacant since the summer of 2012. Built in 1952, construction of this era often included asbestos and lead paint. Previous renovations by Barry Architects to address ADA accessibility found the presence of asbestos materials. The materials were removed in the areas of renovations, however it is expected more asbestos materials exist due to the age of the building. Original floor tiles still cover some floors, floor tiles of this age typically contained asbestos. The boiler room and steam heating system also contain insulation that most likely has asbestos. In addition the underground oil tank is 60 plus years old and should be assessed for any leaks and future functionality. However, no known petroleum contamination has been reported to date. The Town of Adams currently owns property but is looking to sell to a private developer.
