Additional Property Attributes

The Nueces Upper Oso Water Quality Improvement Project included the creation of a storm water detention pond system for the Nueces County Fairgrounds complex. As part of the project, Nueces County constructed a trail system surrounding the ponds for outdoor recreation. Earthen pits and a tank battery associated with historic oil and gas exploration and production were present on the site from the 1950s to the 1970s. Contaminated soil was found during the excavation of the ponds. In January 2015, the site was accepted into the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) Brownfields Response Program. The RRC Brownfields program performed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA), Limited Phase II ESA, Supplemental Phase II Subsurface Assessment, Groundwater, Surface Water, and Sediment Sampling event to delineate the extent of soil impacts. The RRC is currently working on a remediation strategy for this site.
