Additional Property Attributes

Gustine Unified School District plans to acquire the site to expand school housing capabilities of the adjoining, existing Gustine High School. Based on historical information, the site was operated as a bulk fueling facility from at least 1946 through 1990. Previous investigations at the site documented petroleum-related impacts to soil and groundwater from underground storage tanks that were removed from the site in 1991. The site also had several existing and former structures of such an age that building maintenance may have introduced pesticides and/or metals to shallow soil. Gustine Unified School District applied for a Targeted Site Investigation (TSI) grant to assess soil and groundwater for potential chemicals of concern at the site.

Former Use: The Site is located on CA HWY 33, just north of the intersection with CA HWY 140 (also known as 1st Avenue), approximately 500 feet north of the town of Gustine, in Merced County, California. The address associated with the Site is 1893 CA HWY 33. The site was developed with seven structures between 1946 and 1990. The structures are of such an age that building maintenance may have introduced pesticides and/or metals to shallow soil. Six of the structures were removed by 2005. A bulk fueling facility operated at the site from at least 1946 to at least 1990. Six aboveground storage tanks were located on the central portion of the site from at least 1946 to 1990. Four underground storage tanks (three 750-gallon tanks and one 550-gallon tank) were removed from the site in August 1991; however, installation dates are not available. Currently the site is developed with one single-family residence and a detached wooden shed located on the southeastern portion of the property. The residence is currently vacant. A concrete driveway is located on the northeastern portion of the site. The remainder of the site is primarily covered by dirt and gravel.
