Institutional and Engineering Controls

U
The need for institutional controls is unknown because cleanup is in the planning process. The Preliminary Endangerment Assessment (PEA) conducted under the Targeted Site Investigation (TSI) Grant indicated that further action is needed to reduce or eliminate the potential impact of dieldrin in soil. On May 25, 2016, Morgan Hill Unified School District entered into a School Cleanup Agreement with DTSC to oversee site cleanup. Cleanup for the site is being planned.

Additional Property Attributes

Morgan Hill Unified School District selected the site for a future elementary school with approximately 27 classrooms for 600 students. School construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2017. The site was used for agricultural purposes from prior to 1939 until sometime between 1998 and 2005. The site also had three existing and former structures of such an age that building maintenance may have introduced pesticides and/or metals to shallow soil. Recent investigations indicated concentrations of organochlorine pesticide in soil that exceed health risk-based screening levels. Morgan Hill Unified School District applied for a Targeted Site Investigation (TSI) grant to assess soil for potential chemicals of concern at the site.

Former Use: The Site is located at the northeastern corner of the intersection of Peet Road and Mission Avenida in Morgan Hill, California, in the County of Santa Clara. The site was previously owned by Mr. Stanly Borello for over 50 years.
