Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Site is a portion of an approximately 40-acre redevelopment district which was formerly occupied by Interstate 195 (I-195). Based on historical fire insurance mapping, the Site was historically occupied by residences and stores from the late 1800s to the 1950s. Industrial activities conducted at the Site included jewelry manufacturing circa late 1940s to early 1950s. The Site was depicted as a series of parking lots in mapping from the early to mid-1950s, and I-195 was subsequently constructed in the late 1950s and occupied the Site until 2010. I-195 was demolished in 2010, and in 2011, the Rhode Island legislature created the Commission to coordinate the redevelopment of the vacated properties. Following demolition of the highway facilities, the Site has remained vacant.
