Additional Property Attributes

The City of Cuyahoga Falls plans to clean up the Former Mud Run Gun Club and to construct recreational amenities: a trail head, picnic area, restroom. The property may also be used to reduce the impacts of stormwater events which have led to flooding and loss of property. Surrounding the property are residential units, typically multi-family apartments and many are subsidized. The remedial investigation identified lead concentrations as high as 70,000 ppm in the 0-1 foot soil horizon. It is anticipated that approximately 7,000 to 14,000 cubic yards of soil from across the property will need to be excavated. Sediments in Mud Run Brook showed concentrations of lead as high as 131 ppm as well as PAHs exceeding respective sediment screening values, a result of the shooting activities on the property. Stabilization/solidification treatment of the lead in the soil, and disposal in a municipal solid waste facility were recommended.

Former Use: The former gun club began operations in the 1960s, offering trap shooting fields and a 100-yard rifle range. The property has been vacant since the mid-1990s. The City of Cuyahoga Falls obtained the property to reduce the nuisance created by shooting activities, as the surrounding area has become residential. An adjacent property is zoned Mixed Density Residential.
