Property Highlights

The assessment was implemented following a technical assistance award to the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment (SICE) to evaluate the subject property through the U.S. EPA Targeted Brownfields Assessment program. A Phase I Environmental site assessment was performed under this TBA to identify recognized environmental conditions that were identified in the Phase I as RECs. Results of the Phase II assessment revealed the presence of dioxins/furans, arsenic, and petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and petroleum hydrocarbons in groundwater that should be further assessed to evaluate the extent of contamination. The SICE would like to redevelop the site for processing wood chips into pellets for home heating fuel. Former Use: Undeveloped or grazing land before late 1940s. Lumber mill late 1940s to 1986; owned by Louisiana Pacific Corp. 1973 to 1998. Vacant from 1986 to present.
