Additional Property Attributes

The Property is currently used as a spring for the city drinking water. There are also walking trails associated with an adjoining property that extend onto the Property. The Property has one building on the south side and a stream running from the northwest corner to the southeast corner. The foundation for a historic home is on the east side of the Property and there is a USGS gauging station on the southeast corner on the stream. The City believes this area would be ideal for highway related business, ie truck stops, motels etc. The City would like to take advantage of the Brownfields marketing opportunities to help attract developers.

Former Use: In the late 1800s, the Property was in the ownership of a family that farmed the land. The railroad needed a source of water for their steam engines and purchased the Property for the springs. Pipelines were run from the springs to the rail yard located in Carlin. The pipelines were gravity fed and there were no pumps or other equipment located on the Property. Starting in the early 1900s, stream engines were gradually replaced by diesel engines and the railroad reduced its water demand. By 1966, there was a building erected at the springs on the south side of the Property. The Property was purchased in 1985 by the City of Carlin.
