Additional Property Attributes

The Washington County Economic Development Group is considering acquiring the property for redevelopment; however, concerns with the potential amount of asbestos and lead-based paint in building materials dissuaded their interest. DNR 128(a) funds were used to determine the extent, scope, and cost estimate for asbestos and lead-based paint abatement. Subject to the group's decision to proceed, they will conduct further all appropriate inquiry for environmental due diligence before acquiring the property.

Former Use: The McCleery Calendar Company operated a calendar factory in the building at this location from 1923 - 1958, wherein they printed calendars for nationwide corporations, including the new Playboy calendar, as of 1956. With continued expansion of operations they moved to a larger location in the community in 1958. Over time, the building was used for warehousing, but for the last 20 years has been unused, with significant deterioration of the building's exterior. In June of 2015 the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
