Additional Property Attributes

This site is on the City of East Chicago�s priority target list for redevelopment within the next 3-5 years. Redevelopment of this property is anticipated to generate additional jobs for the community in the near term. The City of East Chicago requires funding support to conduct a Phase I and potential Phase II site investigation of this property to prepare it for the redevelopment market as commercial/retail.

Former Use: Review of all available historical resources and information indicates that the Broadway and Euclid property initially consisted of undeveloped land from at least 1915 until at least 1930. A building that contained a filling station and auto repair shop was developed on the eastern portion of the Subject Property from at least 1951 until at least 2012. Bill�s Texaco and/or Auto Repair is listed at the Subject Property address from the years 1970 through 2008. A building that contained a restaurant was developed on the western portion of the Subject Property from at least 1951 until 1987. The Subject Property is currently vacant. The surrounding properties were primarily undeveloped with a residential dwelling structures in 1915. A creamery was developed on the north adjacent property from at least 1930 until 1951 and was utilized for auto repair services in 1972. Standard Forgings Company operated on the northwest adjoining property beyond Michigan Ave from at least 1930 until the early 1990s for the purpose of forging railcar axles. A filling station operated on the southwest adjoining property beyond the intersection of Drummond Rd and Broadway St from at least 1930 until at least 1972;, the building associated with the filling station is still located on this site as of the date of this report. The south adjoining property beyond Broadway Street has been utilized for auto service operations from at least 1951 until at least 1972, however, the building associated with the auto service operations was still located on this in 2008. Tetra Tech was unable to determine the date that the south and southwest adjoining properties ceased operations.
