Property Highlights

The property is a bank building constructed in 1916 and is listed as Outstanding by the State Historic preservation officer. THe property is intended to redeveloped with historical restoration in mind as part of the project. During the course of the project, as a result of staffing changes at Landmarks and project delays the City lost the interest/participation of the Indiana Landmarks Foundation.

Former Use: Based on the available historical documentation, the property was used as a bank from 1916 until approximately 1934; as an insurance company from approximately 1934 to 1972; as East Chicago Historical Society and city office for Federal Programs from 1972 to the 1980s, and has been vacant since the 1980s. The historical use of the surrounding properties has included gas stations, post office, library, and industrial activities including aluminum manufacture and pallet manufacture.
