Additional Property Attributes

RLF funding facilitated remediation of a portion of the Green Woods Charter School campus. Green Woods Charter School provides an environmentally-focused education for K-8 students and utilizes its natural campus as an active learning lab for all subjects. The remediation facilitated by RLF funding will enable school children and faculty to utilize all areas of the campus, without threat of exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Former Use: Green Woods Charter School is located on an approximately 5.4 acre site at 468 Domino Lane, Philadelphia, PA. The site is located in the Roxborough section of the City. According to the 1/6/12 Phase I Environment Site Assessment (ESA) report prepared by Gilmore and Associates, the site was undeveloped until 1942. At that point, the site was utilized for a mix of agricultural and residential uses. In the 1950s, portions of the site were filled with soil and rock materials derived from construction of the Schuylkill Expressway. The site was redeveloped in 1965 for use as a pool club, which included a building and a pool. The building supporting the pool club was expanded in the 1980s for use as a restaurant and catering business (Keenan's Valley View Inn). Green Woods Charter School purchased the Property in 2012 under a PADEP Buyers-Seller Agreement with the then-owner, Bill Keenan. Green Woods Charter School remediated the site and constructed a new, environmentally-focused K-8 charter school, featuring a unique natural campus that is integrated into all facets of the academic curriculum. No industrial or manufacturing uses of the Property were indicated in the Phase I ESA report.
