Additional Property Attributes

The subject property was developed with a gasoline station and a residence by 1925. Two gas tanks were identified on the west side of the gas station building along Arrow Avenue on the 1948 Sanborn map. By the early 1950s, the original gas station building was replaced by a new gasoline station building and a car wash building on the eastern portion of property. The subject property remained used for gasoline station, car wash, and residential purposes until 1967, when all of the buildings were razed for construction of the current building. No information in regard to property occupancy was available for the 1970s; however, it is assumed that the subject property was an operating gasoline station. By 1982, the subject property became utilized for convenience store and bar (Elbow Room) operations. It is possible that gasoline sales were associated with the convenience store operations. By 1990, only bar operations were conducted on the subject property. In 1991, a notice of intent to remove four USTs was submitted to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) by the owner of the Elbow Room. The UST closures were not conducted. The subject property was occupied by the Elbow Room until at least 2002 and then by a convenience store in the mid to late 2000s. The subject property has been occupied by Bellas Soul Food restaurant since 2015.
