Additional Property Attributes

The property consists of an old school building that has become blighted and unsafe for occupation. The Owner is in the process of obtaining funds to demolish the building and transform the property into greenspace. The brownfields assessments performed on the structure have provided necessary inspections in preparation for the proposed demolition.

Former Use: The property is an approximately 0.68-acre portion of a 5.16-acre lot and is currently occupied by a vacant, former high school. The interior of the building was in poor condition, with debris and building materials scattered throughout. Some of the second level floors were collapsed with unsafe flooring in other rooms. A total of 8,925 square feet and 600 linear feet of Category I and II non-friable asbestos containing materials (ACMs) were identified at the property. The school operated from 1921 until approximately 1970. Other uses of the building have included commercial retail businesses, office space, and a hardware store. The property is currently owned by Schafer Construction, LLC. Past ownership included Marvin and Faye Manning and family descendants, and the North Gibson School Corporation.
