Additional Property Attributes

While chemicals of concern were reported in soil samples, the detections were all well below BUSTR Soil Action Levels for UST Closure. Groundwater samples exhibited no detections of any chemicals of concern. Asbestos Containing Materials were identified in the former service building on site, and will need to be abated. Total xylenes and TPH C6-12 were found in the soil at one tank cavity and one dispenser island - all above action level. BUSTR Corrective Action forwarded to property owner.

Former Use: The site has been vacant for a number of years, since closing around June 2009 according to the Canton Township zoning inspector. The gas station building, canopy and four steel underground storage tanks still remain according to the nomination from Canton Township officials. It has a 288 square foot building, built in 1973, on the .48 acre property. The gas station has been closed for a number of years and has been sitting vacant since that time. The Canton Township Fire Department indicated that a temporary closure was done on 6/30/09. This property is a high-traffic area on Whipple Avenue, which is a main thoroughfare in the Canton area. The property has been boarded up and mowed by Canton Township in recent years and has continually been on their nuisance list. Canton Township officials are eager to get the property re-developed and have fielded numerous inquiries about the property.
