Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Standard and other historical sources were able to document that the first developed use of the subject property occurred prior to 1886 with the construction of three commercial buildings. In 1886, one building was occupied by a restaurant and the other two were vacant. Other areas of the property appear to have been vacant land. By 1889, the northern vacant building was a general store, the restaurant was the location of the undertaker and the southeast building was a warehouse. By 1895, the general store is vacant and the southeast building is a grocery. By 1900, the northern building is a carriage shop and blacksmith wood work. The other two buildings at the property are both groceries. In 1905, the north grocery is serving as a carriage repository and a fruit stand has been added near the central southeast grocery. By 1911, the fruit stand and carriage repository have been removed and a lumber shed is evident along the west property boundary south of the black smith shop. Between 1911 and 1927, the remaining structures had been demolished and the subject property redeveloped with the two adjoining current commercial structures. The current buildings were utilized as automotive service garages from at least 1927 until at least 1979 (possibly as early as 1912 and as late as 1991). Additionally, based on city directories, a television and radio service shop occupied one space in 1963, a co-op occupied from 1963 to 1967, and a trading post (retail store) occupied from 1995 to 1999. The building appears to have been vacant since the trading post vacated the property.
