The subject site is occupied by the Kinston Iron and Metal scrap yard. The subject site is located in a generally commercial and residential area in Kinston, Lenoir County, North Carolina. The subject site is zoned I-1 (Industrial Business District) by the Lenoir County Planning Department. At the time of site inspection, the subject site was developed with a single structure. The structure was primarily vacant; however, some materials from the Kinston Iron and Metal Scrap yard were observed inside the structure. Based on review of historic information, the subject site operated as the Palmer Junk Yard from as early as 1949 until 1999. Review of historic Sanborn maps indicate that automotive repair activities have also occurred at the subject site from at least 1948 to 1958.
