Additional Property Attributes

The building located at 936 Exchange Street is a four-story, reinforced concrete structure built in the late 1800s. The structure has two, under 600 square feet (sq. ft.) basement areas; the remaining areas are considered at or above ground level. There are multiple shipping/loading docks connected to the ground level of the building, but these did not appear to be being used at the time of the Site reconnaissance. There is a freezer warehouse, freezer room, warehouse, loading dock area, office area, retail shopping area, and file storage area on the ground level. A majority of the ground floor was being used by Rochester Community Bikes for storage of bicycles. The remaining portions of the ground level were vacant or were used to house heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment. The second story was used to store beds and furniture. The third and fourth floors were mostly vacant and were previously used as warehouse/storage areas for Foodlink Foundation Inc. There is an electric service elevator used in the building.

Former Use: According to historical aerial photographs and Fire Insurance Maps, the Site was used as part of the Vacuum Oil Works site from approximately 1866 until 1935. The Site was then used by Rochester Distilling Company as a whiskey distiller from approximately 1940 until the late 1960s. The Kolko Paper Company occupied the Site from the early 1970s until approximately 1999, when Foodlink Foundation Inc. began using the Site for food warehousing and distribution.
