Additional Property Attributes

This Town-owned site is currently occupied by a vacant 3,932 SF former firehouse building on a 0.26-acre lot. The firehouse was built in 1932; however, a 1928 aerial photograph showing this portion of the Town of East Hartford indicates that prior to the building of the firehouse, the property was used for agricultural purposes. The 304 Main Street property is located in an area which will be essential to the ingress and egress for Rentschler Field, the largest economic development project in Town. In addition to being the home of Pratt and Whitney Stadium, home of the University of Connecticuts football team, the Rentschler Field complex is the site of numerous development projects, including the new world headquarters of the jet engine maker Pratt and Whitney, expansion of the United Technologies Research Center and a Master Plan which allows for 1 million square feet of development. Also, a 425,000 square foot outlet center was recently approved for the site. The site's location will be key to the establishment of a new roadway which will provide access to the Rentschler Field complex. Willow Street, which provided the only entryway to the complex off of Main Street, was recently closed off, making a new point of ingress and egress a key factor for development of the site.
