Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The site was owned by Glencoe Plantation up until 1903 when the Lyon Cypress Lumber Company purchased the site and constructed its timber mill and office buildings. The Lyon Cypress Lumber Company sold the site to a Mr. Walter J Stebbins in 1931-1932 after all the cypress trees had been harvested from the surrounding swamp. Mr Stebbins and his family continued to use the site as a lumber and supply company up until 1991-1992, at which point the property was sold to the Garyville Timber Museum Association. The GTMA donated the property to the State of Louisiana in the hopes that the State would provide funding for revitalization of the historic buildings. However, the State could not afford to do so and returened the site to the GTMA in 2013.
