Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The Property has a long history of industrial use dating to approximately 1920, when the Barton Axle Company began manufacturing operations at the property. The Barton Corporation began operations at the property in 1927, in a 38,000-ft2 building formerly occupied by the Barton Axle Company, which had gone bankrupt. By 1930, the site was in use by the Barton Washer Mfg. Company (or Barton Washing Machine Company) which produced washing machine with production of approximately 400,000 units in 1950. In 1971, this company reportedly went out of business, and manufacturing uses ceased. Between 1974 and 1989, the property had four different owners or owner groups, with portions of the property leased out for a variety of uses. In 1989, the property was purchased by Edward Blaine and reportedly used for salvaging of auto parts. In 1993, the owner was cited for the unpermitted collection of an estimated 15,000 used tires which were discovered in a building and in four semi-trailers parked on the property. In June 1995, the property was foreclosed on by the lender (State Bank of Random Lake). The site has been vacant since at least 1996, with use limited to storage by the City of tree limbs cut from diseased trees.
