Additional Property Attributes

Environmental assessment activities for the Faxon School Apartments (Property) commenced with completion of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments in 2013 and 2014. An asbestos and lead-based paint (LBP) inspection of the Property building was completed in June 2013, with asbestos confirmed in the interior and on the exterior and LBP confirmed in the interior of the building. Asbestos and LBP abatement activities began in February 2015 and concluded with final air samples passing regulatory clearance levels in April 2016. The Property building has been redeveloped into affordable renovated apartments for seniors 55 and older. The building has 45 units with 35 one-bedroom and 10 two-bedroom floor plans ranging from 600 to 1000 square feet. The Property is a Low Income Housing Tax Credit, specifically as income restrictive. The community benefits of redevelopment include reuse of a vacant property, important community asset on Paseo Boulevard, removal of blighting conditions, neighborhood community space, and creation of property management positions

Former Use: The property includes a vacant elementary school building constructed in 1910 with subsequent additions made in 1921. The elementary school operated from at least 1909 until approximately 1996. The original facility consisted of three smaller buildings that were likely removed when the current building was constructed. The building on the property has three floors, a basement, a sub-basement and a parking lot.
