Additional Property Attributes

A phase I assessment was performed March 2017. Two RECs were identified: historical use as automotive filling station and historical presence of two heating oil USTs. The city received funding from the state's Abandoned Gas Station Cleanup program to complete clean up. Former Use: The Site is irregularly-shaped and comprised of 2.51 acres of mixed use commercial and residential land situated on the south side of East Main Street, which provides access to and from the Site. The 1229 East Main Street parcel most recently operated as a petroleum filling station and convenience store; however, the filling station was abandoned in 2006 and the former filling station building was demolished in 2015 leaving this parcel a vacant, grassed lot. The 1231 East Main Street parcel is developed with a vacant residence. According to property ownership records, city directories, historical aerial photographs, and previous environmental investigations the 1229 East Main Street Site parcel was historically used as an automotive filling station dating back to the 1970s. No evidence of current or removed underground storage tanks (USTs) such as fill ports, vent pipes, or uniform patches in pavement were observed during the Site reconnaissance. However, the Bureau of Underground Storage Tank Regulation?s (BUSTR?s) records indicate that two heating oil USTs (one 12,000-gallon and one 15,000-gallon) were removed from the 1231 East Main Street parcel in December 1989 and three gasoline fuel USTs (one 6,000-gallon and two 4,000-gallon) were removed from the 1229 East Main Street parcel in November 1991. Prior to 1970 the property was developed with a single residence and owned by several individuals dating back to 1909. From 1970 until 2014 when the property was transferred to the City of Ashland, the property was owned by four different entities all associated with the former gas station operations.
