Additional Property Attributes

Millers Ashland is a former gas station site regulated by BUSTR. OhioEPA performed a Phase I assessment and geophysical survey that confirmed previous use as a gas station. BUSTR records confirm a release of petroleum at the site. The village intends to apply for state funding to perform additional assessment and cleanup activities necessary to achieve NFA status with BUSTR.

Former Use: According to the Phase I report prepared by Brownfield Restoration Group, first commercial use of the Property was as early as 1960. Prior to the Property's commercial use, the Property was most likely undeveloped and/or rural land. The Property is located within the limits of the Village of Rutland, Ohio. This area of Meigs County, which includes the Property, supported strip mining operations from the early 1900s and into the mid-1900s (Wikipedia). A gas station occupied the Property from as early as 1960 until approximately 2005. Since the local mines closed, the land use in the surrounding area has been predominantly rural residential and lesser commercial. The Identified Area/Recognized Environmental Condition that resulted from the historical land use review includes the following:IA/REC-1: Former gas station.
