Additional Property Attributes

The Joliet Correctional Center - West Side property consists of the actual prison area that was used from the 1850's until approximately 2006. Since that time the prison has continued falling into a state of disrepair and several attempts at redevelopment have failed. In 2018, it appeared in a local newspaper that the site was opening to visitors - although there has not been any approved environmental clean-up according to Illinois EPA files.
