Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The property was originally the location of two mills: the former Smith Paper Company Centennial Mill and the Niagara Mill. The Centennial Mill was located on the southern portion of the property and was razed in 1973. The Niagara Mill is the smallest of the four northern mills and is located in the Village of Lenox Dale within walking distance of the Village Center. The Mill was built in 1903 on the northern portion of the site. It had a single paper machine, rebuilt in 1978 to produce porous plug wrap and specialty grade papers. According to retired Schweitzer-Mauduit employees, the manufacturing equipment was scrapped and removed from the Centennial Mill building prior to demolition. The mill building was then demolished and buried in place. The Niagara Mill parcel consists of approximately five acres of industrial zoned land located on the west bank of the Housatonic River near the Lee/Lenox Town line located at 2 Mill Street in Lenox. The Niagara Mill is bordered by the railroad and Mill Street to the east, the Housatonic River to the north and west, and undeveloped land to the south. Across Mill Street is the Lane Construction Corporation Lenox Dale Plant gravel pits and the Schweitzer-Mauduit Willow Hill Landfill. The Niagara Mill has a 17,709 SF footprint with approximately 25,000 SF of floor space. The property has significant frontage on the Housatonic River and the railroad line. The property is located almost entirely within the floodplain of the Housatonic River. The mill has remained vacant since closing in 2008 and being purchased by Niagara Worldwide in 2014.
