The soil was removed prior to demolition, and ACM in building materials were appropriately managed during demolition. Whether or not cleanup of SVOC soil contamination is necessary is dependent upon the results of an upcoming Phase III ESA at the property.

Property Highlights

The Site is 5.6 acres and consists of parking lots and a 35,000-square-foot, one-story hospital building, which was constructed in 1957 and operational until 2011. The property was acquired by the Hampshire County Court from the West Virginia Board of Education in 1956 and was utilized as Hampshire Memorial Hospital until 2011. The Site is currently being considered for a property transfer and redevelopment by the Hampshire County Development Authority (HCDA) and the Hampshire County Commission. The hospital was operational until 2011 when a new replacement facility was built a few miles to the east of the subject property.

The building was demolished between July and October 2023.

Pending a Phase III ESA report to confirm cleanup of SVOC contamination, the intended reuse of the property is as an elementary school.
