Additional Property Attributes

Envirologic conducted initial phase II soil and groundwater sampling on January 11, 2018. No target contaminants were detected in groundwater, however in soil, BTEX constituents were detected exceeding drinking water and GSIP criteria, as well as proposed VI screening levels at only one location. Envirologic conducted additional phase II sampling in order to confirm or refute the data from the initial sampling event by installing three borings surrounding the initial boring in which BTEX contaminants were detected. Seven soil samples were collected and none of them contained any previously detected contaminants. However, hexachloroethane was detected in one sample exceeding proposed VI screening levels. Subsequently, the soil surrounding the borings where contaminants were detected was excavated and placed in a burlap waste bag and is awaiting landfill characterization. The excavation was back-filled with clean sand.

Former Use: The subject property was initially developed with the current building in the late 1800s, at which time it was utilized as a ticket office for the nearby Grand Trunk Railroad. Subsequent owners of the property include Muskegon Cast Products, Muskegon Pattern & Mold, Grand Rapids Aluminum Casting, and Muskegon Aluminum Foundry Co. These firms are known to have had environmental contamination problems in Muskegon. It is presumed that while under ownership by these different firms, the property was used for storage.
