Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The 0.73-acre Site is developed in a residential area of Lawrence with two vacant Site buildings (10,000 square feet and 1,920 square feet). The Site is accessed from May Street and is adjoined by residences and a railroad corridor. The exterior of the Site consists of a paved driveway, parking areas, and small vegetated areas along the eastern property boundary. The Site was used by Dalrymple Oil Company (Dalrymple) from 1937 to 1990 as a fuel oil distribution and equipment business, which included the underground storage of approximately 88,500 gallons of fuel oil in eight underground storage tanks (USTs) and an additional 8,700 gallons of gasoline storage in two USTs. Dalrymple abandoned the Site in 1990, and from 1995 through approximately 2017, the Site was used by various commercial businesses related to heating and plumbing supply and auto repair. Prior to 1888, the Boston and Maine railroad was developed that adjoins the Site to the northeast. The railroad remains active and has operated as the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority since 1972. A coal house associated with the railroad was located east of the railroad from at least 1888 to 2001; therefore, there is the potential coal and ash associated with railroad operations extend onto Site soils.
