Additional Property Attributes

Soil samples collected along the site perimeter contain concentrations of benzene, ethylbenzene, naphthalene, xylene, and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH)-Gasoline Range Organics (GRO) that exceeded 2006 Missouri Risk-Based Corrective Action (MRBCA) Default Target Levels (DTLs) and Tier 1 residential Risk Based Target Levels (RBTLs). Additionally, groundwater samples contain concentrations of benzene, ethylbenzene, naphthalene, and THP-GRO that exceeded 2006 MRBCA DTLs and residential RBTLs. It should be noted, that naphthalene concentrations in groundwater samples exceeded its Tier 1 RBTL for non-residential groundwater (dermal contact). Because the concentrations of contaminants exceeded MRBCA DTLs in samples collected along the site perimeter, it is suspected that they may have migrated off site; thus, potentially impacting adjacent properties. Further characterization is recommended

Former Use: The 0.28 acre site is owned by the Land Reutilization Authority (LRA) of the City of Saint Louis and is located on the northeast corner of the intersection at South 39th Street and Castleman Avenue. From approximately the 1950s to 1980s the site operated as a gas station. Five (5) Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) were removed in 1988; however no investigation was conducted to determine the extent of contamination. Currently, the site is vacant with no structures. The LRA plans to develop the site for landscaped greenspace, residential, or mixed use.
