Cleanup/Treatement Categories:
Addl Cleanup/Treatment info: Asbestos abatement occurred on the western furnace from July 19, 2019 through July 21, 2019. During the abatement of the western furnace, additional ACM was uncovered in the interior of the furnace. Disposing of the furnace intact was deemed the most cost effective and efficient way to handle the furnace. The furnace was removed from the site on October 31, 2019. The northern furnace was abated on July 22, 2019 and transported off site for recycling on July 26, 2019. Klumm conducted demolition and recycling activities on the site from July 16 to July 26, 2019. Final disposal of the small contaminated furnace was conducted by Klumm on October 31, 2019. The contents of the large AST and the non-hazardous drum were removed by Disc utilizing a vacuum truck. In total approximately 1,100 gallons of oil and water were removed from the large AST and one drum. Another drum, previously sampled on the site by the USEPA was deemed hazardous for PCE. The hazardous drum was overpacked and removed from the site on November 15, 2019 by ERG and taken to US Ecology in Detroit, Michigan for disposal. TTL sampled two drums with unknown contents on August 1, 2019. Both drums were deemed to be nonhazardous oil/water. ERG overpacked and removed the two nonhazardous oil/water drums on November 15, 2019 for disposal at their facility in Livonia, Michigan. The US EPA had previously tested liquids within both pits on the site and the contents were nonhazardous. TTL contracted ERG to remove the pit liquids using a vacuum truck. The pits were pumped on July 26, 2019 and produced 4,000 gallons of liquid, with approximately 1,700 gallons originating from the small pit and approximately 2,300 gallons originating from the large pit.

Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The building was occupied by an industrial heat treating company from 1965 to the 1990s and was utilized for storage from at least the 1990s to 2016. In 2017, the site building was partially demolished and the site is currently occupied by piles of discarded building materials, stored equipment and vehicles, and piles of debris and is surrounded by a chain link fence. It is our understanding that the future end user wishes to purchase the site for redevelopment as an asphalt-paved parking lot.
