Additional Property Attributes

Planned use of property will be to construct a neighborhood park, subject to future city funding appropriations. The City took title to the property and has continued to use the existing building for storage. The asbestos noted in the building is not friable, and the City will remove the asbestos at such time as the building is remodeled or demolished for potential public park expansion on to this site. Groundwater on site was impacted by sodium, primarily due to former salt storage on the property; no further remedial action is required, as the City has a local ordinance that prevents the installation of water wells. Lead and arsenic in soil appear to be naturally occurring and no further remedial action is required by IDNR.

Former Use: The site was developed in the early 1960s as a small truck terminal and maintenance shop. Johnson County acquired the property in 1990 and used it until 2014 as a highway maintenance facility. The County solid the property to the City of Swisher in 2016, with the City having conducted a Phase I ESA (at their own cost), and 128(a) assistance with a Phase II, prior to the City's acquisition.
