Additional Property Attributes

The City of Canton Parks and Recreation Department demolished and properly disposed of the dilapidated buildings onsite in the third quarter of 2019, creating 4.2 acres of greenspace around Saab Park.

Former Use: A brickyard operated on the subject property from 1900 to between 1911 and 1916. Brickyard operations included brick kilns. The north adjoining property appeared to potentially be developed with a portion of the brickyard as well. The north adjoining has been partially cleared (potential debris dumping area) and partially wooded from at least 1916 to present. The east adjoining property was historically and is currently a park/recreational area. The east-southeast adjoining property is currently a vacant warehouse, but was historically used as the City of Canton?s garage. Operations at the east-southeast adjoining property included fueling of City vehicles and repair of equipment and/or City vehicles (i.e. oil changes). The south adjoining properties were historically and are currently residential. The west adjoining property beyond the Illinois Central Railroad is currently developed with a vacant building but was historically used as an oil storage facility.
