This former depot is being converted into a museum and public gathering space that will be a trailhead for a planned conversion of neighboring railroad ROW. 128(a) funds assisted this non-profit with AAI and ACM inspection of the structure prior to acquisition, and cost share for ACM abatement post-acquisition, and the non-profit is garnering substantial grants from other sources for stabilization, renovation, and enhancement of this historic railroad depot building.

Former Use: The property was developed for a railroad passenger depot in 1909, but by 1930 the depot was closed; it was converted to general warehousing and storage, with an addition constructed in the 1950s for fruit/vegetable storage. That use was discontinued by 1980, and the depot building deteriorated to the point that without stabilization, the building would collapse. The Des Moines Heritage Trust took ownership in 2017 to stabilize and restore the depot.
