Additional Property Attributes

The property was nominated for use for EPA funding by the Village in response to concerns over water supply wells in the neighborhood surrounding the site and evidence of potential unidentified or unknown sources for low-level chiorinated solvent impacts detected at this property.

Former Use: The site has been used as an auto service and gas station since 1921 (when "Laubenheimer's Garage" was established). Use as a gas station appears to have ended sometime in the 1980s. The last three USTs in use at the site (a 1,500-gas leaded gasoline, 1,200-gallon unleaded gasoline, and a 1,000-gal diesel fuel) were removed on 12/6/1988 and 10/25/1989. Four additional tanks (550-gal unleaded gasoline, 550-gal leaded gasoline, 550-gal diesel, and 850-gal unleaded gasoline) were removed from the Hwy 175 right-of-way in 1994, but are presumed to be historic tanks for which use predating the three tanks removed in 1988-89. Ownership by the Laubenheimer family ended when the business and property were sold in 1992 by Wilmer and Marion Laubenheimer to Ponyhaven LLC (Thomas Schatz, sole member; Warranty Deed document 619960 recorded 12/9/1992). The business and property were sold to the current owner and operator (Shekinah Properties) in 2007 (Warranty Deed document 1150369, recorded 1/24/2007). Therefore, neither the current or immediate past owner have operated petroleum UST systems at the site.
