Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The 0.786-acre Site is improved with two Site buildings. The first is an approximately 3,150-square foot red barn building, and the second is a five-bay brick garage of unknown square footage. The Site was owned by the City of Haverhill since April 7,1820 until the property was acquired by the Haverhill Housing Authority on December 8, 2017. The Site use prior to the City of Haverhill ownership is unknown. During the City's ownerhsip, the Site was reportedly used as a "poor farm" until around the 1950s, when poor farms and poor houses across New England ceased operations. The five-bay brick garage was built as part of the Works Progress Administration around 1934. The construction date of the red barn building is not known but was likely sometime in the 1800's. The Site was used as an auto repair facility for the City of Haverhill. An old dispenser is present onsite and USTs stored fuel for city vehicles. Aerial photographs indicate that the Site remained active through 2010, presumably as a service facility. The long-term use of the Site as an auto repair facility may have led to releases of hazardous substances, such as solvents and waste oil. There is no record of an underground storage tank at the Site, however, evidence of dispenser pump has been recently observed at the Site. There is also reportedly asbestos-containing pipe insulation and caulk on the doors and windows of the red barn building. In addition, due to the age of the Site buildings, there is potentially other hazardous building materials present, such as unidentified asbestos-containing materials, lead paint and PCB-containing building materials.
