Additional Property Attributes

Three underground storage tanks (USTs) were discovered during site demolition activities at the site. Two steel USTs were discovered, a northern UST measured 34 feet long and 7 feet in diameter and a southern UST measured 41 feet long and 8 feet in diameter. A confirmed release was reported to LARA on July 27, 2018 for the southern UST based on the olfactory and visual observation of stained soils. The northern UST was removed from the ground on September 20, 2018 and the southern UST was removed from the ground on September 24, 2018. The third UST is a concrete tank with 2 chambers, and measures 25 feet long, 25 feet wide, and 6 feet deep. It is scheduled to be removed on October 4, 2018. The Muskegon County Treasurer is the owner of the property by virtue of an adverse taking (tax foreclosure). The Muskegon County Treasurer did not own or operate the UST systems.

Former Use: The subject property is a tax-reverted property currently owned by Muskegon County. The subject property was formerly utilized by Howmet Corporation-Misco Division. The County has completed the demolition of the obsolete buildings. During the demolition activities, three USTs were discovered. Additionally, a confirmed release was submitted to LARA following visible and olfactory evidence of contamination was discovered in the UST excavation for the south UST when overburden soil was removed covering the UST.
