Additional Property Attributes

This project has been discussed in CCEDC's quarterly reports for the past several years; however, negotiations with Amtrak have been on-going, and it is only now that CCEDC is ready to conduct assessment activities/purchase the property. Amtrak is currently interested in selling the Downingtown Amtrak Repair Yard property to CCEDC, who would like to conduct assessments (particularly the Phase I) as soon as possible. The Borough of Downingtown and local/state government officials are all excited about this project. (PPF - Downingtown Amtrak Repair Yard, 4/6/06) Amtrak is interested in selling the property to CCEDC once the assessments are complete or entering into a quasi-partnership with CCEDC to move forward. (PPF, 5/1/07)

Former Use: Used by various rail service companies since before 1873, and Amtrak purchased the property from Conrail in 1978 for use as a rail repair yard. Currently this property is an empty lot along the Main Line/R5 rail line through Chester County. The Borough and CCEDC's objective is to redevelop it to transit-oriented design (TOD) project and a western gateway to Downingtown.
