Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: Located south of I-10 and is bound by France Road (west), a boat slip (south), adjoining industrial facility (north) and the IHNC canal (east). The US Army Corps of Engineers maintains a floodwall that runs parallel to France Road and the IHNC approximately 300-feet west of the property, the area was the St. Geme Plantation, Section 38, Lot 2, Squares 54-62) which consisted of unused marshlands. Between 1891-1918 the west adjoining area was developed with roads and privately-owned structures. Some of this property was acquired by the City of New Orleans / Port of New Orleans (including the western most portion of the property) as early as 1918. The former plantation and acquired lands were used to construct the IHNC, boat slips, the property and adjoining properties between 1918-1923. Mechanical Equipment CO INC was listed for the site in 2005, Southwinds Express Construction LLC was listed on the site in 2010, Central Rock Corportation is listed at the site from 2010 to 2014. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) took over the lease from Central Rock Corporation. The property is currently developed with two structures toward the east side of the property: a larger structure to the east and a smaller structure to the west. Central Rock Company operated a concrete crushing, recycling and stockpiling facility and sells construction grade aggregates. The facility operated heavy equipment and stored small quantities of hazardous materials and petroleum products on-site. The FDIC is currently managing removal of site assets and site cleanup required to vacate its lease. Former industrial facilities have operated on the property since 1955 and contained fueling areas with above ground storage tanks, chemical storage, petroleum products and hazardous materials. The property was also historically used for metal manufacturing, and distillation equipment manufacturing.
