Additional Property Attributes

Based on the findings of the Targeted Site Investigation the following actions are recommended: (1) further evaluation of the lateral extent of dioxins/furans in soil in the area of the former boiler room and former refuse burner; (2) further evaluation of the lateral extent of diesel-range organics, oil-range organics, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes in soil and groundwater near the former UST area; and (3) further assessment of diesel-range organics and oil-range organics in groundwater in the area of the leachfield.

Former Use: The Site encompasses approximately 44.6 acres of a 53.9-acre parcel. Some structures associated with historic lumber mill operations remain. Prior to 1945, the Site was undeveloped and reportedly used for gold dredging and livestock grazing. Trinity Alps Lumber Company developed the Site in 1945 and operated it until the mill was sold to American Forest Service Products in 1965. American Forest Service Products then operated the Site until it was sold to Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) in 1967. The original sawmill at the Site burned down prior to 1970, so SPI moved the sawmill operations to another lumber mill, also owned by SPI, in eastern Hayfork and reportedly did not operate a sawmill at the Site. Fred and Susan May purchased the property from SPI in 1998 and The Watershed Center purchased the property in 2015.
