Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: The property is comprised of four parcels of land and portions of four parcels of land, totaling approximately 17 acres. The property is developed with two fast-food restaurants (Popeye's and McDonalds), a Shell gasoline service station, the Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) bus terminal, the Norfolk Fire Station No. 2, parking lots, portions of the Tidewater Gardens residential units, and a vacant lot. According to historical sources, numerous roadways, commercial entities, and dwellings between 1887 and 1950 occupied the property lots. After the 1950s, but before 1970, the property was reconfigured and redeveloped into a single block with commercial structures that included a gasoline service station, auto repair facility, and dry cleaners. By 2008, the property configuration is consistent with present day visuals observations made during the site reconnaissance. The western portion is developed with six structures, while the remaining areas of the property are paved parking lots, portions of the Tidewater Gardens dwellings, and a vacant lot. This site is included in anticipated future development as part of the City of Norfolk's HUD Choice Neighborhood Initiative (CNI) Implementation Grant.
