Additional Property Attributes

The Property was developed as a portion of a community for epileptics and mentally impaired patients in 1914. By 1937, the Property contained a primary building, two associated structures, and access drives on the south portion of the Property. The remainder of the Property was developed with farmland and grass areas. By 1949, the farmland was replaced with additional grass areas. In the 1970s, the community was closed. In 1985, the Property reopened as a minimum-security prison identified as the Camp Tuscola Annex Facility. By 1987 the former grass areas located on the north and south portions of the Property were replaced by wooded areas and an additional structure and surface parking lot were developed adjoining the building. In 2003, the Camp Tuscola Annex facility closed. At the time of the reconnaissance, the Property was unoccupied. Surrounding areas consisted primarily of wooded land, residences, and the Caro Center.
