Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: By 1900, the Property was developed with the foundation of a former building, a structure, and two sheds. A two story building identified as the Hotel Helm was located in the northwest corner of the Property, and the two sheds were replaced by a shed and a commercial storefront located south of the hotel by 1909. The shed was demolished, an automobile garage was developed east of the commercial storefront, and the structure located in the northeast corner was converted into an automobile garage by 1924. An addition was made to the hotel by 1937. By 1955, the automobile garage located in the northeast corner was demolished. By 1993, the commercial storefront and the remaining automobile garage were demolished and replaced with unpaved parking. From at least 1992 to 2014, the on-site building provided a mixed-use space for apartments and Croswell Corners commercial operations. At the time of the reconnaissance, the Property supported Rae?s Coffee House and Eatery on the ground floor and apartments on the second floor. The remainder of the Property consisted of unpaved parking. Four groundwater monitoring well covers were observed on the Property. Based on our review of a Final Response Activity Report dated November 29, 2018 (the 2018 FRAR) prepared for the north-adjoining site, the wells are associated with a migrating release from the AMCO #1209 gasoline service station formerly located on the north-adjoining site. The surrounding area was comprised of residential and commercial developments.
