Additional Property Attributes

Former Use: By 1937, the Property was developed as agricultural land and a drain that crossed the central portion of the Property. Manufacturing operations occurred on the Property as early as 1946. In the mid-1950s, buildings were present on the north and south portions of the Property. Snow Screw Products, Inc., a manufacturer of metal fittings and flare nuts, operated at the Property in 1955. By 1957 the drainage feature appeared to be backfilled. Piles of metal chips saturated with hydraulic cutting oil were staged east of the north and south buildings prior to offsite disposal from 1963 through 1999. According to the Property owner, the metal chips were stored in pits prior to the mid-1980s at which point the pits were replaced with concrete pads. A pole barn was constructed near the east Property boundary by 1987. Soil and groundwater sampling occurred on the Property from 1989 through 2008 as a response to an EGLE investigation. The sampling events were limited in scope to areas requiring immediate action and did not address the entire Property. In the late 1990s, the following remedial action was taken on the Property 1) two areas of soil and metal chips were excavated near the concrete pads, and 2) a french-drain system was installed between the south building and the pole barn to remove cutting oil free product from shallow groundwater. At least two USTs potentially containing heating oil, two existing ASTs formerly containing cutting oil and kerosene, and two former ASTs that contained cutting oil and an unknown substance have been associated with the Property.
